I have always enjoyed traveling, even if it meant sleeping in a tent when I was younger. I prefer hotels and cruise cabins now, but the motivation is the same...an adventure waiting to happen. Sometimes you will find me traveling with my husband and/or family. Sometimes I will travel alone, and sometimes I will travel with friends. I hope you find it entertaining to keep up to date with me as I explore the world around me. Warning...I like to take pictures of food so don't read if you're hungry. More adventures await...see ya soon...Amy.

London Day One

For four people with very little sleep, we have hit the ground running and didn't stop until we fell asleep at dinner and knew we had to return to the hotel.

We were met at the airport by the driver our hotel secured for us. He had been waiting for us for awhile and thought we had missed him. Going through the security line had taken awhile. He drove us to our hotel, Base2Stay Kensington and our rooms were not ready so early. This was not a problem as they would store our luggage and place it in our rooms when they were ready. This enabled us to get out and start seeing the city! Our first stop was Big Ben and Parliament before we rode on the London Eye. The London Eye is like a very very slow ferris wheel in the sky and we rode in a giant glass bean. We traveled high over the city very slowly and all of us really enjoyed the birds eye view. After departing the London Eye, we decided that we should stay in the sunshine as much as possible to reset our body clocks so we walked to Covent Garden. We were desperately trying to stay awake to help us with the jet lag. The temperature today is in the upper 70's and we felt every bit of the heat. Debbie was surprised that air conditioning is not a priority in buildings. We Americans are very spoiled when it comes to that luxury and we've sweated a lot today. We found our way to Covent Garden and ate lunch at Pizza Hut of all places. We tried to eat at one of the local places, but there was no seating inside because of the heat and the outside seating was full. We were very hungry so our pizza tasted really really good. We walked around Covent Garden, stopping to shop in the market shops and the kiosks scattered about. Mom bought a new pair of tennis shoes because her feet were already hurting in the "good" shoes she brought. We kept seeing people eating ice cream and couldn't figure out where they were getting it. Debbie has no problem walking up to people and asking questions and we discovered that Thorntons Chocolatier had an ice cream kiosk attached to their store. We stood in line for awhile only to find out that they had sold out of dark chocolate. Mom was not to be deterred and got a scoop of milk chocolate with chocolate flecks in it. I had a lick and wished that I had not jumped out of the line so quickly when I saw the dark chocolate was gone. The ice cream was delicious! Once we had seen all that we wanted to see in that area, we took the tube (subway) to the Tower of London, changing tube lines twice. It was an adventure! We did not have time to tour the Tower as we were just passing by on our way to the Tower Bridge and St. Katherine's Wharf. We had a light supper at Zizzi's, an italian restaurant. We shared two molten chocolate cakes for dessert and had to call it a night because we all kept falling asleep at the table. Lucky for us, we were only a tube ride away from our hotel and our rooms were ready and waiting when we got there. We are calling it a somewhat early night to get ready for a full day tomorrow and hopefully we can find someplace with some good fish and chips!
