WELCOME TO MY TRAVEL BLOG

I have always enjoyed traveling, even if it meant sleeping in a tent when I was younger. I prefer hotels and cruise cabins now, but the motivation is the same...an adventure waiting to happen. Sometimes you will find me traveling with my husband and/or family. Sometimes I will travel alone, and sometimes I will travel with friends. I hope you find it entertaining to keep up to date with me as I explore the world around me. Warning...I like to take pictures of food so don't read if you're hungry. More adventures await...see ya soon...Amy.

Dooley's Hotel: Waterford, Ireland

the tour buses outside should have been our first clue that this might not be a good experience.

see those two tiny lights? that's all the lighting for this side of the room and they point to the floor!

As indicated in my previous post, we are only staying at this hotel because we were moved here by The Granville who apparently overbooked their reservations and didn't figure that out until two days before we were to arrive. I am thankful that I gave them a contact number, or we might have been looking for a hotel when we arrived late last night. This hotel is old and musty and has worn and dirty carpet in the common areas. Our room was clean but we really couldn't have seen any dirt anyway because the only lighting in the room was two tiny lamps mounted on the bed wall and one overhead light with a dim bulb above the desk. I couldn't find anything in my suitcase until the morning because it was so dark. The closets were made of particle board and the floor was slanted which meant that I had to hold onto one side of the bed to avoid rolling onto Danny and he had to push on his side to avoid rolling onto the floor. The mattress also had to be old as it was very soft and hollow in the middle. There was hot water in the shower which was good, an ironing board, and hot pot available. I don't believe any of us got much sleep. Tour buses were loading up outside the hotel at 6 in the morning. Mom and Dad were in a non-smoking room, but it was located directly over the front door where all the smokers stand. The hotel did not have air conditioning, and we couldn't sleep with the windows open becWe ate dinner at the hotel and it was really good. We all enjoyed our meals. I had high hope for breakfast, but breakfast the next morning was pretty awful. There really isn't anything good I can say about it. I ate toast and that was it.
