WELCOME TO MY TRAVEL BLOG

I have always enjoyed traveling, even if it meant sleeping in a tent when I was younger. I prefer hotels and cruise cabins now, but the motivation is the same...an adventure waiting to happen. Sometimes you will find me traveling with my husband and/or family. Sometimes I will travel alone, and sometimes I will travel with friends. I hope you find it entertaining to keep up to date with me as I explore the world around me. Warning...I like to take pictures of food so don't read if you're hungry. More adventures await...see ya soon...Amy.

A December Getaway

our dinner spot

Swordfish with leeks, sweet potatoes and stinging nettles soubise

Pork Loin with brandies prunes, turnips, mustard spaetzle and apple cider sauce
Danny has always wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway and we somehow found the time in the middle of December to do just that. It's been awhile since we took a trip with just the two of us and since we enjoy doing the same kinds of things on these kinds of trips, we are looking forward to lots of fun and memories. We are starting our trip in San Francisco and will end it in Los Angeles making evening stops along the way . Danny passed through here (San Francisco) briefly with his dad years ago, but was not able to see the highlights of the city. Tomorrow we will have a day to do just that! Our travel today was fairly uneventful. I was a little disturbed in the airport by a young mother and her two year old who desperately needed a nap and she desperately needed help with her parenting and social skills. I hope my face did not reflect my feelings when the seat she was assigned was right next to mine! Thankfully there was an empty seat available on our row and she scooted over and sat the two year old between us. He was amazingly well behaved in the airplane and soon settled down for a long nap. I'm not a social traveler and usually do not talk to people around me so I plugged in my earphones and turned on my movie and made myself unavailable for conversation. Without me to chat with, the young mother curled herself up into a ball and took a nap which I think was much needed. Danny sat across the aisle from me taking cat naps as well. The air in the plane was very very dry and the temp was pretty hot and stuffy. I thought I was having hot flashes until I looked around and saw people fanning themselves. We were all sweating by the time we got off. I think these California people must like things warm! We ate supper tonight at a restaurant near the hotel called Salt House. It was delicious! Very rustic and warm brick interior with an open kitchen and bar. The menu was creative and interesting and the bread and unsalted butter served beforehand was absolutely fantastic. We liked it so much, they gave us second helpings! We are looking forward to our day of exploring San Francisco tomorrow. Until then....
